With his new EP Poutine, Cassidy the Patriot shares his passion for both Montreal and the electronic music scene. Inspired by Kaytranada, Lunice and Tommy Kruise, this talented beat magician is on the rise to become of Montreal’s favorites. With beats you can listen to in your car with your squad just as much as when you’re relaxing with a glass of expensive red wine, you’ll find yourself playing these mellow and spacey tracks on repeat for several days. In this short yet insightful interview, I asked the promising artist about his work, inspirations and goals.

First of all, why did you choose electronic music?
I chose it because I love the energy that it brings, gets your body moving and heart pumping. Also I find Montreal is very electronic based in terms of the music that it consumes as a city.

Where can we see you?
At the moment, you can find my work at soundcloud.com/cassidythepatriot and on all digital distribution outlets such as Spotify and Apple Music. I haven’t started performing as of yet. Real soon though.

What do you like most about your work?
I like that I can use it as a medium to express myself in an artistic way and people enjoy it as well. Also I love the freedom to create whatever I’d like to create.

What research do you usually do?
In terms of research, I don’t do much research per se, but I am always on the look out for new trends and techniques that could facilitate making music. The quicker I lay down a beat the better it sounds I find.

What is your ultimate dream project?
My dream project is to work on major studio album with Skrillex , Calvin Harris and Kaytranada.

What is your favourite or most inspirational place in Montreal?
I would certainly say school is where I get a lot of my inspiration from that being Concordia University.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?
Be different, be unique don’t be afraid to step outside the box. Don’t be afraid to try new things.

What wouldn’t you do a day without?
I cannot go a day without listening to music and making at least a beat per day. I find every day brings new inspirations new ideas to be put into music and given to the world.

What superpower would you have and why?
If I had a superpower I would certainly want it to be to teleport as I please. I do so much traveling as an artist.
